I. INTRODUCTION

This position is located in

Serves as a trainee assisting higher graded scientists performing research into critical problems of fisheries resource management. Work supports the goal of protecting, restoring, and managingthe use of coastal and ocean resources through an ecosystem approach to management.

II. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists in investigations of long range and short term problems affecting the fisheries resource and may contribute to scientific papers for publication.

III. FACTOR LEVELS

Factor 1 - Research Situation

Assignments are intended to orient the employee to the mission of the agency, the organization, administrative policies and regulations, technical programs, research techniques and operating procedures.

Factor 2 - Supervision Received

In order to develop the professional fisheries knowledge gained through formal education, the incumbent receives intensive training and close supervision on day to day assignments.

Factor 3 - Guidelines and Originality

Receives detailed instruction and guidance. The work is reviewed closely to assist incumbent in learning correct research methods and the proper application of basic scientific principles and accuracy of results. All new work is reviewed with the supervisor or other senior scientists.

This position is non-exempt from coverage under the Fair Labor Standards Act.
