II. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Learns to perform simple assays using established protocols. Learns to operate common analytical equipment.

II. FACTOR LEVELS

1 - Knowledge Required by the Position - FL 1-1, 50 pts

Ability to learn basic aid duties in an analytical laboratory.

2 - Supervisory Controls - FL 2-1, 25 pts

Supervisor or higher graded technician makes specific work assignments and provides clear, detailed instructions. Work is closely controlled and reviewed during progress to assure adherence to instructions and established procedures.

3 - Guidelines - FL 3-1, 25 pts

Specific, detailed guidelines covering all aspects of the work are available. Employee may not deviate from instructions without supervisory approval.

4 - Complexity - FL 4-1, 25 pts

The work consists of clear cut tasks which are directly related. There is little or no choice to be made regarding succeeding steps.

5 - Scope and Effect - FL 5-1, 25 pts

The work involves specific operations limited to a few well defined tasks. The work facilitates the work of others within the work unit.

6 - Personal Contacts - FL 6-1, 10 pts

Contacts are with employees within the immediate work area.

7 - Purpose of Contacts - FL 7-1, 20 pts

The purpose of the contacts is to obtain or give facts related to the work.

8 - Physical Demands - FL 8-2, 20 pts

The work requires extensive standing and sitting on laboratory benches. There is some walking, bending and carrying of light to medium loads. The work requires above average agility and dexterity.

9 - Work Environment - FL 9-2, 20 pts

The work may be conducted in a laboratory environment with adequate heat, light and air conditioning, or outdoors, sometimes aboard ships. May be required to wear special protective clothing such as gloves and safety goggles when handling hazardous materials or operating test equipment.
