Coming Soon - Leadership Education & Development Certificate Program

The Office of Human Resources Management (OHRM) is pleased to present a special, unique, and exciting training opportunity: The 2010 Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) Certificate Program.

Due to the demand for shorter-term introductory leadership training we have developed a 6-month “non-competitive” leadership certificate program for eligible employees. The program will begin on Monday, June 14, 2010, and conclude in December 2010. Two introductory information sessions will be held for all interested employees on Thursday, May 27, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. in Room 6057 of the Herbert C. Hoover Building, located at 14th and Constitution Avenue, N.W. in Washington, D.C.

The LEAD Certificate Program is open to full- or part-time permanent Commerce employees at the GS-13 or 14 (or equivalent) levels whose duty-station is located within the Washington, D.C. commuting area. Individuals must have received a rating of Level 3, or equivalent or higher on their most recent performance appraisal. Individuals who apply to the program must obtain approval from their supervisors to participate in the program during official duty hours. Those that complete all the requirements of the program will receive a leadership certificate that signifies completion a body of knowledge in the areas of leadership and team building.

The cost for all program components will be approximately $750, which must be funded by the participant’s organization. Included are four (4) full days of training, a personal assessment, a leadership book, a mentoring program, discussion materials, program notebooks for course materials, and a wide variety of leadership training and networking components. Spaces in the program will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. At the program’s conclusion, graduates will be invited to attend a graduation ceremony with their supervisors and mentors.

The program application and additional information is available on the homepage of the Commerce Learning Center (CLC). Log into the CLC and select “Leadership Education and Development Certificate Program” (highlighted in blue). In addition, you can find out more about the LEAD program on OHRM’s training web page.
