On Tuesday, October 6, 2009, the Herbert C. Hoover Building (HCHB) Health Unit, Room 6046, will begin giving seasonal influenza (flu) vaccinations to Commerce employees working in HCHB and the Ronald Reagan Building. This year there is an ample supply of vaccine that will be distributed alphabetically by last name over a two-week period. Please note below that the vaccination day for your last name varies each week. The HCHB Health Unit seasonal flu vaccination hours are 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 pm to 3:00 p.m. each scheduled day.

All persons wishing to receive the seasonal flu vaccine will completean FOH Flu Vaccine Acknowledgement that will be available in the Health Unit.

If this is your first seasonal flu vaccine injection or you have not had the vaccine in over five years, you must remain in the Health Unit for 20 minutes after your injection so you can be monitored in case of an adverse reaction. If you have received the seasonal flu vaccine in prior years and have not had a reaction, there is no need to wait.

The week of October 5, 2009 seasonal flu vaccinations will be administered Tuesday through Friday on the following schedule:

    • Last names starting with A-E will be on Tuesday, October 6, 2009.

    • Last names starting with F-L will be on Wednesday, October 7, 2009.

    • Last names starting with M-R will be on Thursday, October 8, 2009.

    • Last names starting with S-Z will be on Friday, October 9, 2009.

During the week of October 19, 2009, seasonal flu vaccinations will be administered Tuesday through Thursday, on a first-come, first-served basis. Depending on demand, additional dates and times may be announced.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (www.cdc.gov) advises persons who are allergic to or have developed a serious reaction to chicken eggs or to a previous dose of seasonal influenza vaccine, or have a history of Guillain Barre Syndrome to not receive the vaccine.
