The fourth blood drive for 2009 at the Department of Commerce Herbert C. Hoover Building (HCHB) is scheduled for Wednesday, August 5, by appointment from 9:00 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. in the HCHB auditorium. Please call the HCHB Health Unit at (202) 482-4088 to make an appointment. Walk-in donors will be accepted if time and scheduling permits.
Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. is in need of blood, and while approximately 95% of the U.S. population will need blood during their lifetime or know someone who will, only about 5% give blood. Help us by donating blood today. Together, we can make a difference! Read more at http://www.my-redcross.org.
The American Red Cross asks that donors: be in good health, be at least 17 years of age; weigh no less than 110 pounds; and not have donated blood within the past 56 days. People who cannot donate include: those who are on an antibiotic for an infection; most people taking blood thinners; most people who are not feeling well, have a cold, or sore throat; and those who have an elevated temperature at the time of donation. Additionally, if you have traveled recently, taken malaria medication, or lived in certain countries for longer than six weeks, additional restrictions may apply to your donation.
If you have any questions concerning the American Red Cross guidelines or conditions that might affect your ability to donate blood, please call 1-800-Give-Life, or visit http://www.redcross.org/ and click on "Give Blood." The next HCHB blood drive is scheduled for October 7, 2009.
