DOC Leadership Development Programs

Recruiting this Summer!

The Department of Commerce, Office of Human Resources Management is pleased to announce that the Department’s top leadership development programs will recruit for the next cohort of participants this summer. These popular programs provide training and developmental experiences that prepare participants to take their careers to the next level.

The New Pathways Aspiring Leaders Development Program (ALDP) is a 12-month program for high caliber individuals at grades GS-7 through the GS-12 or equivalent levels. The program has two tracks: Track 1 is designed for individuals at the GS-7 through GS-10 or equivalent levels and Track 2 is designed for individuals at the GS-11 and GS-12 or equivalent levels. The learning components and activities in each track are the same, but the level of learning is specific for each grade or experience level of the employee. The Horizon Executive Leadership Development Program (ELDP) is an 18-month program for high caliber individuals at grades GS-13 and GS-14 or equivalent levels and is designed to develop a pool of graduates who can compete to fill mid-level vacancies. The program is modeled after the Senior Executive Service Candidate Development Program, and concentrates learning in subcomponents of the Office of Personnel Management’s (OPM) Executive Core Qualifications (ECQs). The Summit Senior Executive Service Candidate Development Program (SES CDP) is an 18-month leadership development program for high caliber individuals at grades GS-14 and GS-15 or equivalent levels and is designed to provide a pool of graduates who can compete to fill SES vacancies. The program is based upon the design for an SES candidate development program as described in 5 CFR, Part 412. In addition, other components have been added to increase the learning experience of the candidates. For more information on this program, see The Summit SES CDP web page.

Applicants apply electronically for the desired program using the USAJOBS website. The exact dates when each program’s application will be available via USAJOBS will be announced soon. Selection for each program is competitive, involving a rating and ranking of applications and interviews.
