If your personal religious beliefs require that you abstain from work at certain times of the workday or workweek, you may work extra hours so that you can meet your religious obligation without having to take personal leave. The hours worked in lieu of the normal work schedule do not create any entitlement to premium pay but rather allow you to take the additional time off for your religious observance.
Most religions have a positive requirement - - that is, you attend a service on a particular day as opposed to abstaining from work. While many hold services at night or at noon so that the requirement can be met without time off from work, some may not. In this case, annual leave, restored annual leave, or leave without pay may be used for religious observance. If none of these are applicable, you may request to work compensatory overtime for religious observance before or after the grant of compensatory time off.
Heads of operating units may establish policy with respect to the timeframes in which compensatory time for religious observance is to be worked and used.
